3 weeks gone? Where?

Today, I finished the third week of this fall semester, and I find it hard to believe how time has already flown by so fast. As usual, I was very hesitant in starting another semester (new semester = start of new ventures), but with these past 3 weeks have come many fun times. So far, I have met 2 international students, one from South Africa and the other from Zambia. They are both really great people and, a plus, is that he and she are a fellow brother and sister in Christ. I look forward to knowing them better as the semester progresses.

One thing that I am trying to do more of this semester is volunteer, and this Friday morning, I started my first of 9 meetings in a swimming program for students with disabilities. I was paired with a fellow classmate and together, with the help of a lifeguard, we worked with 13 year old twins who have Muscular Dystrophy. I wasn't expecting them to have the ability to swim well, given their condition, but the pool was their domain. I was very surprised at how well they could freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. And even with their disability, they act just like most junior high boys. Hopefully, they will warm up to my friend and me in the next few meetings.

Tomorrow morning, I am volunteering at a Paralympic Sports Clinic at UTA, and I am very excited about it! Playing sports alone is great, but being able to see individuals play those same sports with wheelchairs and prosthesis' is going to be AMAZING. The agenda: wheelchair tennis, track and field, swimming, and wheelchair soccer. I've been told by some of my professors that some of the professional Paralympic athletes will be there tomorrow. I wish Murderball (wheelchair rugby) was available to play there. While I was in the OTA program in Austin, I saw the movie Murderball, and was just in awe of the players' stories of how they became disabled. This documentary also showed the "intenseness" of wheelchair rugby. It is a very interesting movie, however, there are a few inappropriate scenes. Just so you know.

So thankful for the weekend! I believe, this Sunday, that Jeff and I get to see our "soon-to-be-NEW" home one last time before it is officially ours later next week. I don't know if Jeff or our realtor will get me to leave. Owning our first home makes me giddy. =)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Here we go...

Okay, so I have officially started our blog. It's funny how I created this blog 2 years ago and am just now beginning to write in it. Earlier this evening, I told Jeff that I wanted to start a blog for us and do so soon. Through his immediate laughter I heard him making a reference that I can't keep up with the dishes, so how could I keep up with a blog. Hmm, well I have started it, so this is progress, AND, I am always game for showing Jeff that I can keep up with something. His joke was out of love - I think. ;) But, we have excitement to look forward to as next weekend we will be moving into our first home! We are both ecstatic and anxious. The Colony, here we come!
